01942 is the area code for Wigan and surrounding towns in Greater Manchester, such as Leigh, Hindley and Atherton. Wigan has its own code rather than sharing Manchester's 0161. Calls from 01942 numbers often come from Wigan Council, the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, GP surgeries, schools, manufacturers, logistics firms and local businesses. Because UK geographic numbers are portable and can be used on VoIP systems anywhere in the country, and because fraudsters can spoof caller ID, an 01942 number on your screen should not on its own convince you that a caller is who they claim to be.
Who called me from 01942?
The prefix tells you where the line was originally registered (Wigan), but not who is behind it. Numbers can be ported between networks and caller ID can be spoofed, so a familiar code is no guarantee. Search the full number to see its current carrier, line type and whether other people have reported it.
