055 numbers are allocated by Ofcom for corporate numbering, which lets an organisation give staff and offices a single, location-independent numbering scheme across a private network. BT has also used parts of the 055 range for its internet-based voice services. These numbers are not common, and many people are surprised when one appears on their phone. A call from an 055 number could be from a business with a corporate network or from a user of an internet phone service. There is no guarantee that calls to 055 numbers are charged at landline rates, and the caller ID shown on any call can be spoofed.

If you do not recognise an 055 caller, consider letting it go to voicemail and checking the cost of calling back first.

Who called me from 055?

The prefix tells you what kind of number it is (corporate numbering (055)), but not who is behind it. Numbers can be ported between networks and caller ID can be spoofed, so a familiar code is no guarantee. Search the full number to see its current carrier, line type and whether other people have reported it.
