- Access charge set by your phone company plus a service charge set by the organisation. The service charge for 084 numbers is capped at 7p per minute and/or 7p per call, and must be stated wherever the number is advertised.
0843 numbers are part of the 084 band of service numbers, added in 2007 to provide extra capacity alongside 0844. Since 1 July 2015 calls to them are made up of two parts: an access charge, which your own phone company sets and must tell you about, and a service charge, which the organisation chooses and must state when it publishes the number. These numbers are not included in inclusive minutes. They are used by businesses for customer lines, booking services and call routing. Some services that connect callers to other organisations' numbers have used 0843 numbers. Caller ID from an 0843 number can be spoofed.
If an 0843 number is presented as the way to reach a government department or a well-known company, check its official website first: an 03, 01 or 02 number may be available.
Who called me from 0843?
The prefix tells you what kind of number it is (service number (084)), but not who is behind it. Numbers can be ported between networks and caller ID can be spoofed, so a familiar code is no guarantee. Search the full number to see its current carrier, line type and whether other people have reported it.
