0873 numbers are the newest part of the 087 band, introduced alongside 0872 in 2007, and are covered by premium-rate regulation. Relatively few organisations publish 0873 numbers, so most people meet them as incoming calls from marketing systems or through call-routing and information services. Since 1 July 2015 the cost of calling one is your phone company's access charge plus a service charge chosen by the organisation, which must be shown alongside the number and is capped at 13p per minute and/or 13p per call. As with any number, an 0873 caller ID can be spoofed, so check unexpected callers.
