0909 numbers were used for adult services after premium-rate numbers moved into the 09 range in the late 1990s. Today Ofcom requires new sexual entertainment services to use 098 numbers, and the 0908 and 0909 ranges are closed to new allocations. Remaining services on 0909 numbers must still comply with premium-rate rules on pricing and promotion. Because the content is aimed at adults and the charges can be high, these numbers are a common target for call barring by parents and businesses. The cost of a call is the provider's service charge plus the access charge set by your own phone company, and calls are never part of a bundle.
If you are billed for 0909 calls you did not make, contact your phone company and ask about blocking premium-rate numbers.
Who called me from 0909?
The prefix tells you what kind of number it is (premium rate (sexual entertainment, legacy)), but not who is behind it. Numbers can be ported between networks and caller ID can be spoofed, so a familiar code is no guarantee. Search the full number to see its current carrier, line type and whether other people have reported it.
